Book Club Reading: Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock by Matthew Quick

Book Club Reading

Last Tuesday was my second crack at a 20’s/30’s book club. It was a little more successful than the first one but it was mostly my co-workers who I convinced to attend.

Does anyone else lead or attend a young-ish book club? Are there titles you really enjoyed or advertising that works to get other to join? I’d appreciate some help in growing my club. I know there are readers in the community!

This book was probably a hard sell for most people. It’s a horribly sad story but it yielded really interesting conversations.

Over a Cup: Hello, Sunshine by Leila Howland

Over a cup (1)

I would really love to commit more time to writing on this blog! I’m determined to do it. Hopefully I can come up with some more ideas of things to post about. And now, a day late, is what I am reading (and finishing) this morning. This actually works out perfectly because I have the Advanced Reader Copy of this book and it is released today!

Over a Cup: An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

Over a cup (1)

I’ve been so overwhelmed with everything I want to read lately. You know that feeling where you want to internalize as many stories as possible but it feels like you can’t possibly prioritize them all efficiently? That’s what I’m going through right now. I start a book and get serious FOMO from the books sitting next to me on my bedside table.

So this is one of the books I’m juggling at the moment.

Currently Drinking: Iced Cafe Mocha (my favorite)

Work Outings: #ALAAC2017

Holy Library Conference, Batman!

So many books and people and panels and things to see. I attended the American Library Association’s Annual Conference that was held this year in Chicago. The library let me stay downtown at the Hyatt. That worked out so nicely.

I wanted to do a quick post about all the ARC’s I decided to take home with me from the Conference. It’s so hard not to just pick up every single book you see. Unfortunately, you can’t carry a million books with you on the train home.

Book Club Reading: Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

Book Club Reading

So, either I’m too excited about reading or I’ve gone a little mental (perhaps both) but I’ve just started to run my second book club at the library.

I run a fairly successful fiction book club at my library that is mostly attended by women much older than myself. There is one exception. One woman who attends is closer to my age. She confided in me that she often is afraid to voice her opinions of certain topics in the books we read because the other women will judge her or get upset with what she says.

That made me think – I want younger voices! And I want to read YA books!

So, I have taken up the effort (along with a co-worker) and we are attempting to run a 20’s/30’s book club in our local martini bar. The first meeting’s attendance wasn’t great but I have faith for the future!

This month we read Ready Player One by Ernest Cline.

Over a Cup: Othello, The Moor of Venice by William Shakespeare

Over a cup (1)

I’ve been getting down on myself for keeping up with popular literature and not going back to some “classics.” Last night I had the overwhelming urge to read some Shakespeare. So I woke up, went to the gym, and then immediately found my copy of Shakespeare’s Complete Plays and paged to one I’d never read before.

Currently Drinking: Dunkin’ Donuts S’mores Iced Coffee (so good!)

Currently Reading: Othello, The Moor of Venice by William Shakespeare
